This course is designed to give the veterinary practitioner a basic understanding of small animal echocardiography. Major topics include normal cardiac anatomy, basic techniques, standard views in cardiac ultrasound and hands-on scanning of dogs.

The participants will rotate in hands-on sessions where individual coaching of how to obtain echocardiographic imaging planes and measurements taught in the lectures is the main focus.

Echocardiography in small animals: Level I - a "taster" workshop, 13.5 CPD points, 3 seats left

 

This course is designed to give the veterinary practitioner a basic understanding of small animal echocardiography. Major topics include normal cardiac anatomy, basic techniques, standard views in cardiac ultrasound and hands-on scanning of dogs.

09.00 – 09.30          Echocardiography: basic applications from the right parasternal approach, standard imaging in 2D, normal morphology

09.30 - 10.00          Practical demonstration of a cardiological examination, right approach

10.00 – 10.15          Break

10.15 – 12.00          Echolab: hands-on in small groups

12.00 - 13.00           Lunch

13.00 – 15.00          Echolab

15.00 - 15.30           Break

15.30 – 16.00          Lecture: basic echogardiographic measurements in 2D and in M-mode

16.00 – 17.30          Echolab

 

Day 2

 09.00 – 09.30            Echocardiography: applications from the left parasternal caudal (apical) and left cranial approach (atrium and auricle), normal morphology

09.30 - 10.00            Practical demonstration of a cardiological examination, left caudal and cranial approach
